HOUSTON – Destini Texada recorded her first collegiate double-double but it wasn’t enough as the Huskies lost to visiting UT-Martin, 66-53, Wednesday night at Sharp Gym.

It was a tale of two halves as the Huskies and Skyhawks entered the locker room deadlocked at 31 at the half. The Huskies shot 39 percent from the floor including 50 percent from behind the arc and a perfect three-for-three at the free-throw line. Texada scored 11 of her 18 points in the first half, while bringing down six rebounds. Jamie Spriggs scored 10 while recording two steals. The Skyhawks’ leading scorer entering the game, Alecia Weatherly, almost recorded a double-double in the first half alone, as she had 11 points and nine rebounds heading into the intermission.

The second half saw a reversal in shooting success as the Huskies shot just 30 percent, while the Skyhawks hit 56 percent of their shots. The Huskies were only down by 11 with 3:29 left in the game after a Brittany Maxey three, but HBU hit a dry spell and did not hit another basket the rest of the game.

Texada led the Huskies with 18 points and brought down a team-high 10 rebounds, while Spriggs scored 15 points and was third on the team with six rebounds as Maxey finished with seven. Megan Green had three assists, along with Dominique Mayberry. UT-Martin was led in scoring by Yalonda Davis with 18 points, while Weatherly finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Cali Cupples was the only other Skyhakw to reach double-figures in points, as she had 11.

HBU (1-5) will host Oral Roberts Saturday afternoon at 2:05 pm.
