HOUSTON – Freshmen Destini Texada and Brittany Maxey each recorded double-doubles as the Huskies defeated visiting Wiley, 71-47, Sunday afternoon in Sharp Gym.

The achievement was Texada’s second in three games, while it marked Maxey’s first.

The Huskies led 14-2 early in the first half, but the Wildcats clawed back and took a four-point lead into halftime as Latoya Murray hit a half-court shot as time expired. Murray was the top shooter for Wiley after 20 minutes, scoring eight points, while Shirolacille Holloway matched her total.

But HBU forced 19 turnovers and had 26 rebounds in the second half to regain the lead and earn the win, outscoring the Wildcats 49-21. Ten of Texada’s 13 points came in the second half.

The Huskies had four players finish with double-digit points, led by Jamie Spriggs’ 17, as she was two rebounds shy of a double-double herself. Texada was second with 13 points. She had a busy afternoon as she also recorded 11 rebounds, seven assists, three blocks and five steals. All stats except the points were career-highs. Maxey and Holloway finished the game with 10 points each, as Maxey also grabbed 11 rebounds. Murray led Wiley with 14 points, while Ueronica Cleveland added 11. Mahogany Terry had a game-high 13 rebounds, 12 of which were on the defensive end.

HBU (2-6) will conclude its seven-game homestand by welcoming Stephen F. Austin to Sharp Gym on Saturday, December 12, beginning at 2:05 pm.
