HOUSTON, Texas – Four players scored in double-digits for HBU but the Husky women couldn’t overcome a strong shooting night by UT-Arlington as the Mavericks defeated the Huskies 77-65 on Wednesday evening in Sharp Gym.

Freshman Destini Texada led HBU with 14 points while Megan Green added 12.  Taniqua Hollis and Shirolacille Holloway each contributed 10 for the Huskies.  HBU finished the game shooting 38.2 percent from the floor while UTA connected on 52.8 percent.

Hollis hit the first bucket of the game on a fast break after intercepting a UTA pass to put HBU up 2-0 but the Mavericks quickly answered with a three-pointer from Tamara Simmons.  The Mavericks got up by 11 with just over five minutes left in the first half but a quick 8-0 run by the Huskies cut it to 31-28 with 2:59 left in the half.  UTA closed out the first period leading 38-30.

The Huskies got as close as two with 14:40 remaining thanks to a three-pointer from Green but UTA answered with a 17-0 run to make it 62-43 with less than nine minutes to go.  HBU was unable to get closer than 11 the rest of the way.

Texada was 5-12 from the floor and 4-9 from the foul line for 14 points while adding three boards, one blocked shot and one steal.  Green was 4-9 from three-point range while adding three steals.  HBU recorded 17 steals as a team.

Holloway finished with seven rebounds to compliment her 10-point performance.  Hollis was a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line for the Huskies and had four steals.  Freshman Princess Jeanmard also recorded four steals, a new career-high, and dished out four assist.

UTA held a slight advantage over the Huskies in rebounds with a 38-35 advantage.  HBU committed 27 turnovers while forcing the Mavericks in to 26.

HBU falls to 2-12 on the season while UT-Arlington improves to 5-7.

The Huskies will travel to Conway, Ark. on Tuesday, January 5 for their final non-conference matchup with Central Arkansas at 5:30 pm.
