HBU Playing a Pair of Non-Conference Games on the Road

Huskies will face SMU and UT-Arlington

HBU will play a pair of non-conference games in a span of three days as the Huskies face SMU in Dallas on Saturday, January 23 and then UT-Arlington on Monday evening in Arlington.

The Huskies are coming off a home loss to Green Bay, keeping the game close until the Phoenix hit their free throws late to end the game at 77-66.  Senior Mario Flaherty posted his third-straight double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds while also recording a career-high five blocked shots.  HBU shot 46 percent for the game and was out-rebounded 38-36.  Andrew Gonzalez added 12 for the Huskies while Michael Moss pitched in with 11.

SMU is currently 7-10 this season and 5-5 on its home floor.  The Mustangs most recently defeated Rice in Houston, 73-65.  Derek Williams leads SMU in scoring with 16.2 points per game while Papa Dia averages 12.1 points and 8.2 rebounds.  As a team, SMU is scoring 68.1 points per game and pulling down three more rebounds per game than opponents.  The Mustangs are shooting 46.5 percent for the season and 32.6 percent from three-point range.

HBU is 0-5 all-time against SMU with the last meeting coming last season.  The Mustangs won the game 79-60.  Flaherty finished the with 3 points and 1 rebound while junior Fred Hinnenkamp scored 9 points and pulled down 2 rebounds.

UTA stands at 8-8 on the year and will play Southland Conference rival Sam Houston State on Saturday before facing the Huskies.  The Mavericks are 6-3 at home this season.  The two teams already played at Sharp Gym this year with UTA edging HBU, 80-75.  Marquez Haynes is averaging 24.4 points per game and scored 18 in this season’s previous meeting.  Brandon Long led all players with 27 points.

Saturday’s game with SMU will begin at 2:00 pm and Monday starts at 7:00 pm.
