Huskies Advance to Great West Championship Game

OREM, Utah - HBU defeated NJIT 74-64 on Friday night at the UVU Events Center to earn a spot in the Great West Tournament championship game on Saturday with an automatic bid to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament on the line.


The Huskies jumped out to a 21-7 lead less than nine minutes in to the first half but NJIT fought back to lead 37-34 at the half.  The game was back and forth in the second half until a pair of Andrew Gonzalez free throw made it 59-58 in HBU's favor.  The Huskies led the rest of the way.


Gonzalez, a junior from Pasadena, led all players with 24 points, 18 of which came in the second half.  He was 6-14 from the floor, 2-7 from three and 10-11 at the charity stripe.  Freshman Miles Dixon added 15 points and eight rebounds while Wendell Preadom scored 11.  Mario Flaherty finished with 10 rebounds and eight points.


The Huskies shot 41.5 percent from the floor and 85.2 percent from the charity stripe.  HBU held a 44-25 advantage on the boards.


HBU will play South Dakota at 8:30 pm central at the UVU Events Center.
