HOUSTON – In front of a raucous crowd at the first night game for the men’s soccer program at Sorrels Field, the Huskies upset conference rival Adelphi by a score of 2-1 Saturday evening.

Adelphi (8-2-4, 1-1-1 ASC) entered the game unbeaten in its last nine matches (7-0-2) and hadn’t lost in over a month.

The first half was scoreless as Adelphi held a slight 5-4 advantage in shots. Michael Bouchahine made one save, while the Panthers’ Thorne Holder was active between the pipes making three saves.

That tie lasted just three minutes into the second half as Dan Dwyer headed a corner kick off the foot of Andrew Collins into the net. Six minutes later, Adi Mesic gave the hosts a 2-0 cushion as he booted a kick into the net. The play was set up beautifully as Adam Jakle made a nice move past the defender and was able to center the ball into the box for Mesic.

The Panthers answered with a goal of their own just seven minutes after Mesic’s score to cut the Husky lead to one. But that was all the closer they would get the rest of the game.

Bouchahine ended the game making one save while earning his fourth win on the season. Holder made three saves in his first loss on the year.

HBU (5-8-0, 1-0-0 ASC) will host NJIT next Saturday at 7 pm, the final home match of the season for the Huskies.
