HOUSTON – The HBU women’s soccer team earned a 2-0 shutout over South Dakota on Saturday afternoon at Sorrels Field to secure the number two seed from the West Division at the Great West Conference tournament next weekend.

It didn’t take the Huskies long to take a lead as junior team captain Isla Cameron worked her way around a defender and put the goal in the back of the net just one minute and six seconds in to the game.  Just over 15 minutes later, Cameron took a free kick from about 10 yards outside the box and put the ball in the top left corner of the goal to make it 2-0.

From there on out, the Huskies held South Dakota to just two shots on goal in 73 minutes.  The two teams were even with 13 shots attempted but HBU held a distinct 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.  The Huskies attempted three corner kicks to USD’s one.

Cameron had her first multi-goal game since the 2007 season and now has a team-best seven goals for the year.  In goal, senior Michelle Rich made three saves for shutout number 10 of her career.  Rich improved to 6-8-3 on the season.

The Huskies are now 7-8-3 on the season and 3-1-2 in Great West play.  South Dakota falls to 4-11-1 (2-4-0).

HBU will head to Newark, N.J. for the Great West tournament where they will face the third-seed from the East Division on Friday November 6 at 10:30 central time.
