HBU Shut Out by Longwood, 1-0

FARMVILLE, Va. – The HBU men’s soccer team was shut out by Longwood, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in the final regular season game for the Huskies.

The only scoring in the match came in the 29th minute off the foot of Chris Saul, assisted by Brian Germain. Saul shot it on the right side, just outside the box.

Longwood outshot HBU 11-6 and doubled the Huskies’ shot on goal total, 4-2. Chris Dodd made four saves in the losing effort, while LU’s Joel Helmick made one save; there was one team save.

Francisco Diaz and Richard Ojeda had HBU’s shots on goal.

The Huskies end the regular season 6-10 overall and 2-2 in Atlantic Soccer Conference play. The ASC playoffs will run from November 12-15 on the campus of Longwood. Adelphi will be the number one seed with five points. HBU, Howard and Longwood each have four points, but the Lancers will be the second seed as they defeated both the Huskies and Bison. The Huskies will be the third seed, as they defeated Howard, and the Bison will be the fourth seed. NJIT, with three points, will be the fifth seed.

Howard and NJIT will play in the play-in game on the 12th, with the winner facing Adelphi the following day. HBU and Longwood will square off in the second semifinal.
