Husky Women Lead after Two Rounds at UTPA Golf Classic

HBU has six players in the top-ten after day one

EDINBURG – On day one of the UTPA Golf Classic, the HBU women hold a five stroke lead and are in front of three Great West Conference members while playing at Los Lagos Golf Club where the Great West Conference championship will be held in the spring.

Paige Gibson fired a 152 (74-78) through two rounds and is tied for first with UTPA’s Majo Camey.  Freshman Balbina Guajardo stands alone in third with a two-round score of 157 (77-80).

Kelsey Lou-Hing, playing as an individual, and Brianna Maynard turned in identical performances, shooting 158 (78-80) and are tied for fourth place.  Also playing as an individual, Natasha Lee tallied a 160 (82-78) for a seventh-place tie.

Freshman Gaia Olcese finished in 10th place with a 163 (81-82), immediately followed by Alexandra Hopson in 11th who shot 164 (82-82).  Kelsey Rogers, the Huskies third player playing as an individual, finished the day in 22nd with a 200 (94-106).

As a team, HBU shot 630 (310-320) and leads the host Broncs (635) by five strokes.  Chicago State (662) stands in third followed by North Dakota (692).

The Huskies will conclude the fall portion of their schedule with the final round on Tuesday.
