Huskies Conclude UTPA Golf Classic in Second

EDINBURG – Facing three members of the America Sky Golf Conference, the HBU men’s golf team placed second at the UTPA Golf Classic being held at Los Lagos Golf Club on Tuesday.

The top finisher for the Huskies was Sumin Yu, a sophomore, shooting 223 (73-72-78) for the tournament and tying for third.  Yu finished seven strokes behind individual champion Aaron Stewart from SMU.  Mark Slater jumped two spots on the final day, concluding the tournament with a 230 (77-79-74).

Andrew Rollins fired a 234 (78-73-83) for a 10th-place finish.  Ian Armstrong tallied a 236 (80-76-80) and tied for 11th overall.  Ryan Alger finished the tournament with a 240 (79-80-81) and placed 18th while Hudson Hansard finished 24th with a 258 (88-88-82).

As a team, HBU shot 920 (307-300-313) for the tournament and finished six strokes behind host Texas-Pan American.  The Huskies finished 16 strokes ahead of North Dakota (936) with Chicago State (1080) finishing fourth.

This was the final tournament of the fall season for the Huskies who will resume play in February.
