EDINBURG – The HBU Huskies picked up their first tournament win of the season as the women held off three Great West Conference rivals on Tuesday in the final round of the UTPA Golf Classic at Los Lagos Golf Club.

Sophomore Paige Gibson picked up the first individual title of her collegiate career with an 11-over-par 227 (74-78-75).  Gibson was tied for first place coming in to the final round with UTPA’s Majo Camey but finished four strokes ahead of the Lady Bronc.

The Huskies fired a 941 (310-320-311) for the tournament to capture the win by 10 strokes.  Host Texas-Pan American (951) took second, followed by Chicago State (1003) and North Dakota (1039).

Brianna Maynard, a senior, finished third with a 234 (78-80-76) and was immediately followed by teammate Balbina Guajardo who shot 235 (77-80-78).  Natasha Lee, playing as an individual, placed seventh with a three-round tally of 242 (82-78-82).

Another Husky playing as an individual was Kelsey Lou-Hing, shooting 243 (78-80-85) and tying for eighth place.  Gaia Olcese, a freshman, finished in 10th place with a 245 (81-82-82).  Alexandra Hopson finished 15th with a 255 (82-82-91) while Kelsey Rogers placed 22nd with a 296 (94-106-96).

The women are done for the fall and will resume play for the spring semester in February.
