Three Huskies earn all-Great West honors at cross country championships

NEW YORK CITY -- Three Houston Baptist University athletes were named to the Great West Conference all-conference cross country team Saturday after top-14 efforts at the league championships, held at historic Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Senior Daniel Martinez of Houston Baptist University was Wednesday named Great West Conference runner of the week by the league office for the second time this season, after leading the Huskies to an historic win at the Sam Houston Invitational.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- Daniel Martinez finished second overall and three of his teammates had top-10 finishes Saturday to lead the Houston Baptist University men's cross country team to the squad's first major meet victory since the program was re-established three years ago.

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Senior Raquel Tidwell of Houston Baptist University was named Great West Conference cross country runner of the week Wednesday by the league office. Tidwell won the individual title Saturday at the HBU Puma Invitational, and led the Huskies to the team title ahead of Rice and Texas-Pan American. It was the second GWC award for Tidwell this season, as she was also honored on Sept. 16.
